Clan Roles

Leader | 1/1 The Heart of the Clan

Will take on the suffix -star when they receive their nine lives.

It is the clan leader’s responsibility to guide, defend and care for the clan. As the heart of the clan the leaders actions, decisions and personality drive how the clan is run. It is up to the leader to uphold the Warrior Code and set an example as to how cats should act within the clan. This example extends to how open the clan is to outsiders and how they respond to bordering clans. Other responsibilities include calling and conducting clan meetings, appointing roles such as new deputies, warriors or apprentices, and creating battle plans, peace treaties or sending aid to other clans. They work closely with the deputy to keep the clan running smoothly on a day to day basis and will consult with healers and seniors in times of war or crisis. It is also the leaders duty to create and maintain relations with other clans and to protect their clan from any threats.  

Deputy | 1/1 | The Pride of the Clan

Will take on the suffix -sky when appointed as Deputy

A deputy is chosen by the leader to help care for the clan. The deputy’s main role is to help support the leader in their decisions and to provide counsel when needed. As the leader’s second, the deputy will stand in for the leader when needed for clan meetings or meetings with other parties. Deputies are responsible for creating and organizing patrols and hunting parties as well as overseeing the training of all apprentices. The deputy joins the mentors for all assessments and helps in deciding where apprentices will specialize. If the leader dies or wishes to retire the deputy will become the next leader.

Healers | 2/2 | The Soul of the Clan

Healers have four suffixes specific to them: -leaf, -stem,

-pool, and -whisper.

Healers are responsible for the health of the clan. They have knowledge in healing techniques and herbs. They know what herbs are helpful, how to use them and which to avoid. They are responsible for gathering and maintaining healing herbs, treating the sick and injured as well as passing on that knowledge to the next generation. Healers have a special connection StarClan and will aid in the interpretation of dreams and signs. The can communicate with StarClan and can receive messages and omens. In times of crisis they will give counsel to the leader of the clan.

 

Dreamer - These cats have a strong connection with StarClan. They have a higher ability to decipher the messages StarClan gives. They are strong healers but may turn to StarClan more often when hard times occur. {-pool, -whisper}

Gatherer - These cats specialize in the knowledge of herbs. The know the best places to find herbs both common and rare. They are very skilled applying and healing cats of illness and injury.

Queen's Aid - Not a true Medicine Cat. This cat is trained by Medicine Cats to have the ability to aid both Queens and Kits. They know herbs to help the birthing process and how to treat sick kits. 

Elders | 0/0 | The Knowledge of the Clan

Can use any suffix a Warrior may have.

A warrior may choose to retire to the status of elder when they feel they can no longer serve their clan efficiently; of their own initiative or due to old age, injury, or sickness. Elders are highly respected in the clan and are free from duties to relax and live comfortably. Elders are known to help watch kits and apprentices and are avid storytellers. Elders are a invaluable source of knowledge and may be called upon for counsel in times of great need.

Warriors | 3/∞ | The Lifeblood of the Clan

Warriors have a variety of suffixes:

-cloud, -ear, -eye,

-face, -fall, -flower,

-fur, -heart, -jaw,

-light, -pelt, -song,

 -storm, -stream,

-stripe or -wing

Warriors are the lifeblood of the clan. They help keep the clan safe and fed; protecting against intruders and predators. They are responsible for joining patrols and hunting parties as well as training the next generation of warriors. In times of hardship they will help defend the clan against intruders and specifically will protect kits, elders and apprentices.

 

Seniors - Older, well season warriors. They may act as guidance and will help lead younger warriors.

Mentor - Mentors are warriors who are currently teaching an apprentice. 

 

Queen - Queens are female warriors who are pregnant or nursing kits. Once their kits turn 6 moons old they go back to their warrior duties. Rarely a she-cat may choose to be a Queen permanently to help care for kits or guide new Queens.

Defenders | 1/∞ | The Strength of the Clan

Defenders have four suffixes specific to them: -claw, -fang,

-talon, and -strike.

Defenders are warriors that specialize in the protection of the clan. Being skilled fighters, strength and focus are their calling cards. Defenders work closely with the deputy to organize border patrols. Their primary job is to defend the clan. This includes going on patrols, dealing with rival clans, intruders or predators that threatening the clan. They know how to analyze a fight and have mastered the moves they used battles. They are also constantly working to learn of new fighting techniques. Extremely skilled Defenders may know a few different styles of fighting. Senior Defenders give counsel to the leader in times of war and are regarded as skilled strategists.

Scouts | 3/∞ | The Eyes of the Clan

Scouts have four suffixes specific to them: -feather, -step, -mist, and -shadow.

Scouts are warriors that specialize in providing information for the clan. Being skilled spys, stealth and intelligence are their calling cards. Their primary job is to keep an eye on clans and groups outside of RedwoodClan borders. This includes traveling to learn about the neighboring clans and groups, bringing back items or information of interest, and dealing with potential threats to the clan. They also can help Hunters find new, safe food sources or hunting techniques and Defenders with battle tactic or new fighting styles. They are constantly working to learn as much as they can about outsiders and threats. They are trained to remain unseen and to handle a variety of different tasks. Senior Scouts give counsel to the leader in times of war.

Runners | 2/∞ | The Warmth of the Clan

Runners have four suffixes specific to them: -flight, -foot,

-leap, and -tail

Runners are warriors that specialize in the diplomacy of the clan. Being skilled travelers, speed and stamina are their calling cards. Runners serve as message bearers between the clans. Their primary job is to take messages from the clan to other groups. This includes bringing aid to clans that need assistance, bringing messages of warning, peace or other important matters. They know how to read other cats and tactics to mitigate tense situations. They are also constantly working to improve relations of clans on RedwoodClan's borders. They are trained to know the best and safest routes between the clans. Senior Runners give counsel to the leader in times of crisis.

Hunters | 2/∞ | The Determination of the Clan

Hunters have four suffixes specific to them: -fang, -nose,

-pounce and -whisker

Hunters are warriors that specialize in providing food the clan. Being skilled hunters, stealth and agility are their calling cards. Their primary job is to provide food for the clan. This includes going on hunting patrols, going on extended hunting parties to find new sources of food, and knowing the best places to find various types of prey. They know how to track and are very good at staying hidden amongst the underbrush. They are also constantly working to learn new and varied hunting techniques. They are trained to know the best places to find food even in the harshest winters. Senior Hunters give counsel to the leader in times of crisis.

Apprentices | 6/∞ | The Future of the Clan

Apprentices will take the suffix -paw upon reaching 6 moon

Once a kit turns 6 moons old they will become an apprentice and given a mentor. Under the guidance of their mentor apprentices will learn the warrior code, traditions of the clan, the clans territory, as well as basic hunting and fighting skills. They will accompany their mentor on patrols, hunting parties as well as have other duties such as den cleaning and helping care for elders and kits. At 12 moons old an assessment of their skills is conducted by their mentor and the deputy of the clan to see where their skills are best fit in the clan. Once the assessment is passed the deputy will announce the placement of the apprentice. Once placed into a group they will undergo a further 6 moons of specialized training. After this training is complete they will be given a task and if they succeed will receive their warrior name.

Kits | 0/∞ | The Gifts of the Clan

Upon being born kits will receive the suffix  -kit until they reach 6 moons of age

From the time a cat is born until the turn 6 moons old they are considered a kit. They stay with their mother in the nursery with playtime in the camp once they get older. They are not allowed to wander outside of camp and are to always be under the watchful eye of a Queen.
