It is the clan leader's responsibility to guide and defend the clan. As the heart of the clan, their decisions and personality will affect how the clan responds. It is up to the leader to set a good example of how to follow the warrior code, how to treat each other, as well as other clans around them. They are responsible for calling clan meetings, appointing  warriors, mentors, apprentices and a deputy who will help them decide clan policy and strategy. A new Leader must travel to the Starlit Cavern to be approved by StarClan. They may be accompanied by a Medicine Cat but must make the journey into the cave alone.  Once StarClan approves a leader they will be granted 9 lives to aid them. When a life is lost they will lose consciousness and may speak with StarClan before reawakening. They will then need to be treated for the injury or sickness that fell them.
